"Firmware Numbers" are the last two hex digits
[or 4 ASCII characters] in any Motronic EPROM
file. Example:
00 65
For every EPROM, there is a silver label with a 10 digit number.
This is
the chip part number. For every chip part number, there is a corresponding "Firmware
Number" located in the EPROM's data file. It is located the last two hex
bytes of the the EPROM's code. This started when the very first Motronic
design, the ML1.1, was converted to
use EPROM's. Later, Its use was gradually fazed-out in
OBDII files of the mid 1990's.
I do not know what BOSCH
calls them.... so I just gave it a name myself... "Firmware Number".
Here are a few examples of "Firmware Numbers" and where they
are located in the file.
These last 4 characters in these files have been mistakenly
called checksums, they are not checksums.
